Members of the Toronto Drug Squad, with assistance from the Emergency Task Force, seized two illegal firearms, drugs and cash in late October.

More than 750 grams of fentanyl, two firearms; a loaded Springfield XD subcompact handgun with 10 rounds of ammunition, and one Glock handgun, along with money and cellphones were seized.

“Every single drug seizure directly contributes to the reduction of drug-related crime and violence in the Toronto,” said Inspector Kathlin Seremetkovski, of the Organized Crime Enforcement Drug Squad. “These investigations have not been done in isolation. Whether it be through collaborative work with other TPS units and divisions, joint operations with partnering policing agencies or information provided to us by the community through various means, it speaks to the importance of the relationships that are formed and fostered by our Drug Squad members”.

Investigators allege the man was trafficking fentanyl when they arrested him on October 22, leading to two search warrants at two residences in the city.

Tremaine Fraser, 35, of Toronto, is facing seven charges.

Seremetkovski said Drug Squad officers have made similar seizures in the last three months – seizing over  500 kilograms of cocaine and 14 kilograms of fentanyl.

“The work being done by officers directly impacts the safety and wellbeing of our city.  As we have seen, the opioid crisis has had a reverberating effect, not only on the individuals struggling with addiction, but on communities as a whole,” she said. “Members of our squad are on the streets every day, gathering evidence to disrupt violent criminal organizations.  The seizures of narcotics, guns and the intelligence gleaned all contribute to safer communities.”

This year, the Drug Squad have been responsible for the seizure of 19 firearms, approximately 1,000 kilograms of cocaine, 20 kilograms of fentanyl and 21 kilograms of crystal meth.
