Experienced Officers Join Service
Nine new police officers were welcomed to the Toronto Police Service after serving in other jurisdictions.
The lateral officers were presented their badges at the Toronto Police College on May 30 by Chief Superintendents Brent Nicol and Shannon Dawson.
“You bring significant value to the Toronto Police Service because of your diverse range of skills and experiences,” Dawson said.

“We are thankful to have you here and fortunate to have you ready to hit the road,” said Nicol, who noted that he is encouraged to see more officers drawn to Toronto, which offers great career opportunities its members.
Six of the nine laterals come from Peel Regional Police.
Vijay Jagmohan returns to Toronto after having served for 13 years as a Court Officer until 2022.
“My primary reason for leaving Peel is that I wanted to come back home,” said Jagmohan. “I miss the people and the organization along with the boundless opportunities TPS offers. My partner also works with TPS and I know my family life would be much better with me back here.”
Mymaiza Borlongan also wanted to come back home.
She was with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police for five years, assigned to the Chilliwack detachment.
“I gained a lot of experience with the RCMP having worked in a small town with big city problems,” said Borlongan. “That will certainly help me going forward with Toronto Police.”
This is the first lateral class to be included in the Service’s newly developed Experienced Officer Integration Program.
“Lateral officers from other police services bring invaluable experience, diverse perspectives and specialized expertise to the Toronto Police Service,” said Acting Superintendent Paul Rinkoff. “These seasoned professionals are deployed directly to the frontlines, enhancing our operational capacity and commitment to public safety. The nine laterals enthusiasm, professionalism and readiness to contribute were immediately evident, and they have already begun making a meaningful impact as part of our 8,000-member team."
