Loaded handgun recovered

A loaded handgun has been removed from the community following a targeted firearm investigation led by the Gun and Gang Task Force, with the assistance of the Emergency Task Force.

On July 4, 2026, members executed a Criminal Code search warrant at the accused’s residence after investigators developed grounds through a diligent and thorough investigation. Officers safely secured the residence and located the accused inside.

During the search, members located a Taurus G2C 9mm handgun concealed inside a safe in the accused's bedroom. The firearm was safely rendered secure and found with a loaded magazine containing 11 rounds of 9mm ammunition.

“The seizure of this loaded firearm is a significant achievement and a testament to the outstanding work of our Gun and Gang Task Force and Emergency Task Force,” said Superintendent Ryan Forde. “Through meticulous investigative work and the safe execution of a high-risk search warrant, our members removed a dangerous weapon from our community and helped prevent the potential for future violence.”

At the time of the investigation, the accused was subject to two separate judicial release orders with court-imposed conditions, further highlighting the importance of the operation.

“The fact that the accused was already on two separate judicial release orders makes this seizure even more significant,” said Forde. “Our members demonstrated exceptional professionalism, teamwork, and dedication throughout the investigation. Their efforts held a high-risk offender accountable while enhancing the safety of our community.”

Forde praised the collaborative efforts of both specialized units, noting that their commitment to public safety reflects the highest standards of policing.

“I want to recognize every member involved for their exceptional work,” he added. “Their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to service excellence are reflected in the successful outcome of this investigation and the positive impact it has had on community safety.”

During the period June 30 to July 11, 10 crime guns were seized and 10 adults are facing charges. So far this year, 266 guns have been seized compared to 331 for the same period in 2025.
