Strip Searches
The Service went one step further and collected the officers’ perceptions of an individual’s race for strip search interactions in January 2020. It publicly released the first findings on June 15, 2022. The Service continues to update the analyses with new cycles of data and report findings to understand trends over time.
The Service expanded the scope of data collection to include strip searches in response to the Ontario Independent Police Review Director’s report “Breaking the Golden Rule.” This video will take us through data considerations, context of strip searches in arrests, and the key findings.
